ความหมายของเพลง

เพลงนี้แต่งมาจากเรื่องจริงของวงค่ะ Deep Purple วางแผนกันว่าจะไปบันทึกเสียงอัลบั้ม Machine Head กันที่ Montreux สวิสเซอร์แลนด์ แต่ในวันที่  4 ธันวาคม 1971  Frank Zappa กับวง The Mothers ไปแสดงกันที่  The Montreux Casino theater แล้วหนึ่งในผู้ชมยิงพลุใส่เพดานคาสิโนทำให้เกิดไฟไหม้จนคาสิโนถล่มลงมา จากที่พวกเขาตั้งใจจะไปพักผ่อนกันที่นั้นก็เลยต้องเปลี่ยนสถานที่ไปที่อื่นค่ะ

 Smoke on the water ก็คือเขม่าควันของเหตุการณ์ไฟไหม้ครั้งนั้นที่ลอยไปทั่วพท้นน้ำตามภาพที่หนังสือพิมพ์ถ่ายไว้ค่ะ
